Esther Takac

Esther is committed to upholding Israel as a democratic and pluralistic society, as envisioned in its Declaration of Independence, and to Judaism as a tradition rooted in justice and compassion. She uses her skills as a psychologist, filmmaker, author, program founder and community builder to work towards these goals - creating films, books and programs that bring people together across divides, fostering healing, resilience and hope.
After working as a psychologist at Hadassah Medical Centre for many years she developed My Journey to Hospital Land, a therapeutic program for children and families in Israeli hospitals.

Her award-winning film The Narrow Bridge follows bereaved Israelis and Palestinians transforming grief into grassroots peacebuilding. In response to the toxic polarisation since Oct 7, she co-developed the Bridge Builders Social Cohesion Program, which uses the film and educational tools to nurture respectful dialogue and deepen understanding of the other’s pain. She is currently working on a new film about Israelis rising from trauma to fight for democracy, healing and their homeland’s soul.

Esther has published three books related to Jewish identity and writes for The Jewish Independent, The Times of Israel and Haaretz. She speaks regularly at communal events including shules, hostage rallies, Limmud and Jewish Educators’ and Writers’ Festivals.
