On 27 May, Hatikvah Australia, Beit Tarbut, and Shelanu joined forces to host a community workshop in support of the Royal Commission into Antisemitism, bringing together participants for an evening of shared stories, mutual support, and practical action.

The workshop was a genuinely collaborative affair, generously supported by community members with legal, psychological and writing expertise who gave their time to help participants navigate both the process of writing a submission and the emotional weight that can come with it. Their presence made a real difference, offering guidance that was professional and deeply personal.

Attendees came to share their experiences, to hear one another, and to take meaningful steps towards putting those experiences on the record. Whether people arrived with a submission already underway or had not yet known where to begin, the room provided the encouragement and practical support to move forward.

One of the clearest messages to emerge from the evening was this: every experience matters. Antisemitism is not a recent phenomenon, and the Commission’s work is not limited to the events of the past few years, however intense and painful those have been. Experiences of discrimination, exclusion, harassment, or hostility can span a lifetime, from childhood through to the present day, and all of it is relevant. A memory from decades ago is no less worthy of being heard than something that happened last month.

The more people who submit, the stronger and more complete the picture the Commission will receive. Each submission adds depth, texture, and truth to a record that will help shape how Australia responds to antisemitism for years to come. If you were not able to attend but have experiences you would like to share, please consider making a submission. Your voice counts.
